TRAVEL ADVISORY: CRITICAL CON EDISON WORK WILL REQUIRE TRAFFIC STOP ON CROSS WESTCHESTER EXPRESSWAY (I-287) ON SUNDAY MORNING

State Police to Hold Traffic in Both Directions in the Town of Greenburgh on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Approximately 9 A.M.

Full Traffic Stop Anticipated to Last Approximately 20 Minutes

Traffic Stop is Needed to Allow Con Edison to Safely Complete Critical Work Above the Highway

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced there will be a 20-minute traffic stop in both directions on the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287) in the Town of Greenburgh on Sunday morning, December 15, weather permitting. The brief traffic stop will allow Con Edison crews to install a fiber optic cable above and across the highway to two towers on either side of I-287. This work is required to maintain reliability.Motorists should seek alternate routes to avoid delays or leave extra time if they are planning to travel during this period.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 15, State Police will stop and hold traffic traveling on I-287 East near exit 3 (New York City - Taconic State Parkway - Sprain Brook Parkway). Motorists traveling on I-287 West will be stopped before exit 4 (Hartsdale - Knollwood Road [NY Route 100A]). The ramp from Knollwood Road to I-287 West will be closed during this time. Additionally, the ramps from the northbound and southbound Sprain Brook Parkway to I-287 East will be temporarily closed.

The work is weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers should plan for delays or take another route.

The app provides motorists direct access to real-time traffic and navigation assistance while on the go. Travelers can also visit the Thruway Authority's interactive Traveler Map which features live traffic cameras. Motorists can also sign up for TRANSalert e-mails, which provide the latest traffic conditions along the Thruway.
