The AAMC joined an Oct. 1 letter (PDF) signed by 130 other members of the Coalition for National Science Funding urging no less than $11.9 billion for the National Science Foundation (NSF) in fiscal year (FY) 2025. This request is $2.84 billion (23.9%) more than the FY 2024 funding level of $9.06 billion.

The letter underlines the importance of supporting the agency, noting that "NSF investments are key to bolstering U.S. economic vitality and national security by funding highly meritorious research; building and fostering U.S. STEM education and workforce programs; and supporting scientists and engineers with cutting-edge facilities."

President Joe Biden signed a Sept. 26 continuing resolution to temporarily extend FY 2025 funding for all 12 annual spending bills, including the Commerce, Justice, and Science bill that determines the funding level for NSF, through Dec. 20 while Congress completes appropriations work [refer to
