Cameron University to examine “The Secret World of Human Trafficking and Smuggling”

The Cameron University Department of Social Sciences will present "The Secret World of Human Trafficking and Smuggling," a presentation by Crystal Kenyon, Southwest Oklahoma Search and Rescue. The presentation, set for Tuesday, October 22, at 2 p.m. in the Shepler Center Ballroom, is open to the public.

Kenyon will present information relevant to the rise and reach of human trafficking and smuggling. Anyone can be a victim, and in the United States, individuals vulnerable to human trafficking range from children in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems; individuals seeking asylum; American Indians and Alaska Natives, particularly women and girls; individuals with substance use issues; racial or ethnic minorities; migrant laborers, undocumented workers, persons with disabilities and more.

Migrant smugglers engage in the crime of bringing people across international borders through deliberate evasion of immigration laws. While these are distinct crimes, individuals who are smuggled may become vulnerable to and victims of human trafficking.

Kenyon is the proprietor of Southwest Oklahoma Search and Rescue, where she combines her personal passion for service with her expertise in canine training and search techniques. She is certified in Incident Command Systems and has extensive experience as a K9 handler and trainer. Her service to the public, as well as her training and experience, make her uniquely qualified to partner with all levels of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Numerous agencies rely on her skills and those of her K9 partners to search for and rescue those in need of help and assistance.
