The New York State Police made a total of 29 arrests of individuals for Driving While Intoxicated from Friday August 23rd to Sunday August 25th. Our goal is to keep those traveling on our roadways safe every day. Out of the 29 arrests, 2 were Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the car.

On August 25th, 2024, at approximately 2:32 A.M., New York State Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Southern State Parkway Westbound in the area of exit 22S. The driver Elder Corea Rodriguez, age 31 of West Hempstead was found to be intoxicated while traveling with his one child, age five. Rodriguez was charged with Driving While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with Child 1st Offense (E Felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor) along with traffic infractions.

On August 26th, 2024, at approximately 2:00 A.M., New York State Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Southern State Parkway Westbound East of Exit 20N. The driver Madelin Ramirez Aracena, age 28 of Hempstead was found to be intoxicated while traveling with her two daughters ages six and seven. Ramirez Aracena was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Driving While Intoxicated 1st offense (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with Child 1st Offense (E Felony), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor), along with traffic infractions.

Driving is a shared responsibility. The New York State Police will continue to strictly enforce Driving While Under the Influence laws to make sure that everyone on our roadways makes it home safe. We remind motorist, if you have had too much to drink or are under the influence of drugs, find an alternate form of transportation home. Do not get behind the wheel.
