Officer-Involved Shooting - Beloit Drive & Bell Avenue

Below is a summary of the events known at this time. The investigation into this incident is in the preliminary stages, and details may change as information becomes available.

On September 14, 2024, at approximately 4:31 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers observed a suspicious vehicle with suspended registration in the area of Beloit Drive and Bell Avenue. An individual believed to be associated with the vehicle abandoned the car prior to officers contacting him. Officers located the individual who was hiding on the roof of a nearby RV. Officers verbally contacted the individual who spontaneously jumped from the top of the RV in an attempt to flee. Officers attempted to detain the individual and during that time an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Officers rendered emergency medical aid to the individual who was transported to an area hospital for his injuries and is currently in stable condition. An officer sustained minor injuries during this incident.

The individual is currently in custody for an outstanding felony no-bail warrant for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

This incident is being investigated by the Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and Professional Standards Unit. An investigation into the incident will also be conducted by the Force Investigation Team. The investigation will focus on policy, tactics, and training as it relates to the use of force. The Office of Public Safety Accountability and the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office are providing oversight by monitoring the investigation.

This incident falls under the City Council's policy on Police Use of Force as well as SB 1421. As a result, all pertinent video and audio associated with this incident will be released to the public within 30 days.
