PRESS RELEASE: Secretary Byrd Announces Mandatory Early Voting Period for 2024 Primary Election

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -

Today, Secretary of State Cord Byrd reminded Florida voters of early voting options available for the mandatory early voting period, August 10-17, 2024.

"Early voting is a convenient and secure method of casting a ballot. All registered Florida voters have the option to vote at an early voting site within the county where they are registered," said Secretary of State Cord Byrd. "Early voting in Florida will be open from August 10 through August 17, 2024. As allowed by law, some counties are offering optional days of early voting."

Early Voting is when a person casts a ballot prior to Election Day at a location designated by the Supervisor of Elections and deposits the voted ballot into the tabulation voting system. The process and voting equipment are the same as used on Election Day.

Florida is a closed primary state which means that only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for their respective party candidates for an office in a primary election. However, all qualified voters regardless of party affiliation or no party affiliation can vote in the following races appearing on a primary election ballot:

• All candidates in the same race who have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the general election;
• Nonpartisan judicial and school board offices;
• Nonpartisan special districts and other local offices; and
• Local referendum questions.

The Division of Elections posts early voting dates, times and locations for all counties on its website. Voters can also contact their local Supervisor of Elections office for information on early voting in their county.

The Division also posts daily online statistics on early voting and vote-by-mail based on county-specific reports filed by Supervisors of Elections.

Voters in Florida have three options to exercise their right to vote: voting-by-mail, early voting and voting at the polls on Election Day. Voters are encouraged to contact their local Supervisor of Elections office for additional information about these options.
