Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding Rehabilitation of the Founders Bridge in Hartford and East Hartford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the rehabilitation of the Founders Bridge (Bridge No. 00371A) on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For instructions on accessing the meeting and ways to provide comments and ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOTHartford0063-0737

The purpose of the project is to address structural deficiencies of the structure, replace deck joints, removing the abandoned moveable inspection platform, repairing bridge deck concrete, increasing the substandard load rating capacity, and maintain the bridge in a State of Good Repair. "This project will rehabilitate the existing structure, thus extending its useful service life by approximately 20 years", said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Meziane, Meziani, P.E. We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.

There will be temporary right-of-way impacts to pedestrian and bicycle access.

Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $22.3 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
