AM/NS Calvert Honored with 2024 PEP Environmental Stewardship Award for Innovative Water Recycling Project

AM/NS Calvert is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2024 Environmental Stewardship Award by Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP). This prestigious award recognizes AM/NS Calvert's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, particularly through its innovative water recycling project.

Project Highlights

The award-winning project focuses on recycling cooling water from one tower to another. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Hot Strip Mill's cooling water circuit team, the water and waste engineer, and the third-party process chemicals supplier, ChemTreat. The project included the installation of a new six-inch diameter stainless steel pipe, enabling the recycling of approximately 43 million gallons of industrial water annually. This effort saves around $76,000 in chemical usage each year and prevents the release of approximately 125,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions-the equivalent of the annual energy use of seven homes.
