Game on! Vancouver gears up for 111th Grey Cup with week-long festivities

Excitement is building in Vancouver for the upcoming Grey Cup. Festivities will kick off this weekend and continue all week long in anticipation of the big game on Sunday, November 17.

The Grey Cup Festival External website, opens in new tab is expected to bring thousands of fans to Vancouver, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere and showcasing the city's world-class hospitality. The festival will energize the city, support local businesses, fill hotels, and boost tourism, with economic benefits that will be seen across the community.

Traffic impacts

As part of the Grey Cup festivities, various road closures will be in effect throughout the week from November 8 to 18. Traffic disruptions are anticipated for those travelling in and out of downtown.

Grey Cup Street Festival (Vancouver Convention Centre)

  • Closures in effect Friday, November 8, from 6:00 am to Sunday November 17, 8:00 pm:
    • Canada Place closed from Thurlow St to Howe St.
    • Thurlow St and Burrard St closed from Cordova St to Canada Place.

Grey Cup Backyard Street Party (BC Place Stadium)

  • Closures in effect Saturday, November 16, from 6:00 am to Sunday November 17, 10:00 pm:
    • Robson St closed from Cambie St to Beatty St.
    • Beatty St closed from Smithe St to W Georgia St.
    • Cambie St closed from Smithe St to W Georgia St (Nov 27, 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm only).

Grey Cup Fan March (Canada Place to BC Place Stadium)

  • Closures in effect Sunday, November 17 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm:
    • Howe St closed from Canada Place to Robson St.
    • Robson St closed from Howe St to Beatty St.

Grey Cup Block Party (BC Place Stadium)

  • Closures in effect Saturday, November 16 from 11:00 pm to Sunday, November 17, 10:00 pm:
    • Pacific Blvd closed from Smithe St to Pat Quinn Way.

Festival and game-day tips

Taking transit, walking or cycling are the best options to get around town. Plan ahead and allow for extra time to get to where you need to go.

  • Stay ahead of road closures at vancouver.ca/road-closures
  • Follow all detours and abide by "No Parking" signs in the area.
  • Don't let waste become litter. Dispose of your waste in the nearest garbage or recycling bin or take it home with you.
  • Be considerate of the community and keep noise to a minimum when leaving events and the big game.
