Blue Turf Thinkers: Veteran students thrive in the College of Engineering

Veteran students from the College of Engineering were honored as the Nov. 9 football game's "Blue Turf Thinkers," a series highlighting innovative, trailblazing academic programs.

The college is committed to fostering a community where everyone can thrive. Veteran students and their families embody the dedication, resilience and leadership that define student success. From active duty to retirees, their unique experiences and perspectives strengthen classrooms, research and innovation, helping achieve the university's mission.

Dean JoAnn Lighty was joined by the following engineering students and U.S. veterans:

  • Taylor Reid, civil engineering, Navy
  • Andrew Bossert, mechanical engineering, Navy
  • Georgia Henson, computer science, Army
  • Greg Henson, Army sergeant
  • Nicholas Carter, alum and college Industry Advisory Board member, Air Force
  • Ryan Edwards, cyber operations and resilience, Air Force
  • Sam Black, electrical and computer engineering
  • Colton Mason, construction management

"From students to faculty, we're proud to support veterans as they transition from service to new careers, and we celebrate their service and contributions," the college stated. "Together, we're solving our world's complex challenges and having a statewide and global impact."

Boise State has served 3,586 veteran students over the past five years across all colleges and departments.
