Stephanie Morales, the Texas AFT COPE-endorsed candidate for Texas House District 138, is a passionate advocate for public education. With a background in community leadership, Morales understands that strong public schools are the foundation of a thriving community. She has consistently emphasized the importance of increasing funding for public schools to ensure educators are well-compensated and classrooms are properly resourced.

HD 138 includes large portions of Spring Branch ISD and Cy-Fair ISD, where a lack of new state funding has translated to fired librarians and canceled bus routes, respectively. Putting a public school champion in this seat is of the utmost importance.

Morales believes that every child, regardless of zip code, should have access to a high-quality education. Her platform includes expanding early childhood education programs, ensuring smaller class sizes, and addressing mental health needs in schools. These policies aim to support both students and educators, fostering an environment where everyone can succeed.

Additionally, Morales has spoken out against the diversion of public funds to private schools through voucher programs. She argues that public money should remain in public schools, which serve the majority of Texas students. By prioritizing equitable funding, Morales hopes to close the achievement gap and ensure all students receive the support they need.

Contrast this with her opponent, Rep. Lacey Hull. In the 88th Legislature last year, Hull voted:

  • FOR private school vouchers
  • AGAINST a $10,000 across-the-board raise for educators
  • FOR expanding privately run charter schools
  • AGAINST a 10% COLA for retired educators
  • FOR ending tenure in higher education
  • FOR banning school library books
  • FOR allowing uncertified chaplains to act as school counselors

With Texas public schools in a fiscal crisis and educator morale at all-time lows, we can't afford to return Hull to the Legislature. Her priorities are not the priorities of public school families.

Morales' commitment to education reflects a broader vision for a fairer and more inclusive Texas, where public schools are empowered to provide excellent education to all students. A vision where we #ThriveTogether.
