Residents urged to report fraud

This week is International Fraud Awareness Week, so we're shining a spotlight on fraud.

Although often hidden, fraud is the most pervasive and evolving crime in society today and the challenge it presents to our Council is significant. According to Home Office figures (March 23), the cost to local authorities is estimated at £8.2 billion per year.

Councillor Jamie Scriven, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Public Protection and Housing, said: "Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has a zero-tolerance to fraud, bribery, and corruption, and we have a dedicated Fraud Officer who investigates all allegations against the Council.

"Every £1 our Council loses to fraud is £1 that that cannot be spent on supporting the community so if you suspect fraud, we urge you to report it. Your referral will be taken seriously."

You can make a report anonymously - however, it will greatly assist any investigation if you provide your name and contact details, with as much detail as possible.
