Data from Creditsafe shows the plant-based meat company Beyond Meat is having trouble paying its bills with a third of its payments to vendors this year overdue by 91 days or more . . . The all-fresh retail beef price reached $8.15 per pound in July, a record. Prices for ground beef, chucks, and roasts all posted record highs during the month . . . Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.32 million cattle on feed on August 1 according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), up 2% from last year . . . NASS also reported laying hens in Nebraska in July totaled 8.61 million, up from 7.92 million the previous year. Nebraska egg production during July totaled 213 million eggs, up from 210 million in 2023 . . . Nathan Owens of Agriculture Dive reported that according to the Sterling Beef Profit Tracker packers lost nearly $100 per head in 2023 and 2024 and are on track to be in the red again next year.
