Wigston Cemetery vandalism condemned

The following statement has been issued jointly with Leicestershire Police in response to vandalism and criminal damage at Wigston Cemetery over the weekend:

"We have been made aware of some recent criminal damage that has been caused to several graves and associated memorials at Wigston Cemetery."This has obviously caused a great amount of upset to those involved. We have increased our patrols in the area and are working together with Oadby & Wigston Borough Council to identify and target the suspects responsible."We are appealing to the community to identify any suspects for these offences."If you have any information please contact Leicestershire police on 101 and quote crime number 24000517785 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers."

Chair of the Oadby & Wigston Community Safety Partnership, Cllr Kevin Loydall, said: "This is deplorable act by individuals that have no respect for the hundreds of families that have loved once laid to rest in Wigston Cemetery.

"Leicestershire Police, Oadby & Wigston Borough Council and other partners continue to work together to stamp out this mindless vandalism - it will not be tolerated.

"If you have information about those responsible, please report this so action can be taken."
