Congresswoman McCollum Honors Victims, Families, First Responders on 23rd Anniversary of September 11 Terrorist Attacks

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today on the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:

"Twenty-three years ago today, the United States endured an unimaginable tragedy on September 11, 2001. Today, we honor those who died, the courage of the heroes who responded, and the American people whose spirit lives on.

"While over two decades have passed since the horrific terrorist attacks, the families of the victims still carry the grief and pain that day wrought. As a nation, we come together today to mourn with those who lost family members, colleagues, friends, and partners, as well as honor the brave first responders who heroically sacrificed their safety to save the lives of others.

"As we look to the future, we must remain vigilant about the threats we face around the world and here at home. In the face of extremism, terrorism, and foreign interference in our democracy, we must stand together as one nation to defend our values. Our shared commitment to freedom, opportunity, fairness, and democracy is greater than the forces that aim to instill division and fear among us. We will not allow our American ideals to be extinguished by any actor, foreign or domestic."
