Art Comes to Life: New Exhibit Opening at TLU

A new art exhibit is opening in Texas Lutheran University's Schuech Fine Art Center this Thursday, September 12, featuring Austin artist Joe Garcia III. Garcia's art is influenced by a variety of cultures and subcultures, portraying scenes from life as viewed through the lens of his Texan/Mexican/American heritage. He uses his art to discuss the history of the Southwest on a personal, regional, and national level.

Garcia grew up sketching on a daily basis, but in 2004, decided to pursue his passion at the postsecondary level, leading to the development of his current style. In his paintings, he strives to bring the colors and beauty of his heritage to the viewer.

The exhibit, called Joe Garcia'sArt Comes to Life, is sponsored by TLU's Mexican American Student Association (MASA) and the TLU Visual Arts Department. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 12, from 3:30-6 p.m. in the Annetta Kraushaar Gallery, and the exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will run through November 25.
