“Soapbox Science” in Central Park to Include Talks on Alien Worlds, How Animals Adapt to City Life, and More—August 23

"How to Discover Alien Worlds," "The Stinging Sea Flowers," and "How Birds Are Coping in Our Cities" are among the talks at New York City's "Soapbox Science" event to be held Fri., August 23, 4-7 p.m., at Central Park's Bandshell Plaza (Terrace Drive, near W. 72nd St.).

The talks, free and open to the public, will feature scientists from NYU and the City University of New York (CUNY), who are organizing the event, along with others from Columbia University, Memorial Sloan Kettering, the European Space Agency, the American Museum of Natural History, and Yale University.

Other talks include: "Combining Nanotechnology and Imaging to Tackle Kids' Cancer," "Adapting to City Life: Lessons from Lanternflies to Lizards," and "How Are We Human?"

Soapbox Science is a UK-based public outreach platform-following the format of London Hyde Park's Speaker's Corner-that explores the subjects of underrepresentation of women and non-binary scientists and their current contributions to science.
