City Council Seeks Volunteers for Planning Commission Alternates

The Colorado Springs City Council is seeking two (2) alternate members to serve on the Planning Commission. Alternates are appointed by City Council to gain experience and fulfill support roles. While alternates typically do not vote, they are subject to the same rules and responsibilities as voting members. They may participate in discussions on non-quasi-judicial matters, substitute for voting members when needed to meet quorum and vote when required in such cases.

The Planning Commission, a nine-member board appointed by the City Council, reviews land development applications including annexations, zoning changes, and conditional use permits. The commission also advises on long-term city planning efforts, such as the city's comprehensive plan, community plans, and land development code. The Planning Commission holds two regular monthly meetings: an informal session on the first Thursday and a formal session on the second Wednesday, both at 9 a.m. The formal meeting includes public hearings and votes on agenda items.

Application Deadline: 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024.
