ABIM is in need of item writers, especially those who can tackle esophageal and duodenal disorders. The role of the Item-Writing Task Force is to:

• Create content for ABIM assessments.
• When relevant, provide media for use in assessments.
• Work with ABIM staff to refine the model-based approach to item development.

• Be currently board certified in gastroenterology or a related discipline.
• Have passed their gastroenterology certification exam.
• Be participating in Maintenance of Certification (MOC).

Keep an eye out for a survey on MOC

Through a survey that 25% of U.S. GIs will receive, ABIM is actively seeking to enhance its understanding of the practices of board-certified gastroenterologists. ABIM worked with the GI societies to restructure the gastroenterology exam blueprint, shifting from an anatomical basis to a clinical focus, for initial certification and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) exams. If you receive a survey from ABIM, please answer it. Your responses will help ABIM understand the feasibility of focused assessments that align more closely with the actual practices of many gastroenterologists.
