Jan Kobal Joins Times Opinion

I'm delighted to announce that Jan Kobal is joining Opinion as a senior video journalist. He will be transforming Opinion podcasts into videos for our site and social platforms. He has already helped pioneer this new project over the past few months, working as a freelance video editor for "The Ezra Klein Show." He has already edited episodes featuring Nancy Pelosi, Tim Walz, Nate Silver, Jon Stewart, Vivek Ramaswamy and David Remnick. Now that Jan is joining Opinion full time, we are excited to see his video editing, sound design, music composition and cinematography skills elevate our projects.

Jan has edited video and designed sound for a wide range of nonfiction video projects across popular streaming platforms. He was an editor on all seasons of "Explained" on Netflix and the upcoming Lisa Frank docuseries "Glitter and Greed" on Amazon Prime Video and was the editor and sound designer of The Wall Street Journal's Peabody finalist short doc "Shadow Men," among a long list of credits.

Jan started his career at "Vice News Tonight" after attending New York University for his master's in news and documentary. Before he realized he'd rather not spend most of his life in a lab, he was on track to become a Ph.D. student in infection and immunity at University College London, studying immunotherapies for various cancers.

Please join me in welcoming Jan to Opinion.
