Defendant Convicted of Attempted Murder Shooting

DATE: July 12, 2024

CASE: Ricky Gonzales (Case#22FE003665)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Maroun, Major Crimes Unit

The Honorable James Arguelles sentenced Ricky Gonzales to 49 years and 4 months to life in prison. On February 16, 2024, a jury convicted Gonzales of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also found true that Gonzales personally used a firearm causing great bodily injury.

On February 26, 2022, the victim and his wife got into a fight. The victim's wife called an ex-boyfriend, Ricky Gonzales, to drive her around town to run errands. The victim's wife left with her and the victim's child and met Gonzales at a clothing store. Shortly after, the victim arrived at the store and he and his wife began arguing about who should leave with the child. Gonzales then pulled out a gun and shot the victim four times. The victim survived his injuries.

The allegation that Gonzales has a 2003 prior strike conviction for robbery was also found true.
