MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - Santee Cooper team members are prepared for the anticipated effects that Hurricane Debby may have on Santee Cooper's service territory. Approximately 2 million South Carolinians depend on the state-owned electric and water utility as their power source, either directly or through the state's electric cooperatives.
As of noon today, Santee Cooper went to Operating Condition (OpCon) 2 alert status. This means a threat to Santee Cooper's electric system is imminent or has occurred, but effects are limited or still uncertain.
"Santee Cooper is expecting impacts from Tropical Storm Debby to our 213,000 retail customers across the state, as well as our wholesale and industrial customers." said Vicky Budreau, Chief Customer Officer. "Our equipment is lined up, our vehicles are ready, and we are finalizing details to be sure we can respond to outages as soon as we safely can."

The Pinopolis Navigational Lock on Lake Moultrie at Jefferies Hydroelectric Station will close at 7:30 p.m. today to prepare for Tropical Storm Debby. The Lock will resume normal operation once storm conditions subside.
