Julia Jackson, LPN, BRMC, was presented with the third quarter Nightingale Award at BRMC/OGH.

BRADFORD, PA - Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, awarded Julia Jackson, LPN, with the 2024 third quarter Nightingale Award. Jackson, a license practical nurse (LPN) in the acute care unit, has been at BRMC since 1979.

According to her nomination, "Julia is an extremely competent nurse and co-worker. Julia keeps the unit running smoothly with her ability to multitask and balance multiple duties at one time. Julia stays informed on patients' conditions and needs to be able to relay the information to all medical providers. She is always compassionate and kind to her co-workers and patients. Julia's knowledge and years of service is a tremendous asset to BRMC."

The Nightingale Award is a result of nominations from medical providers and other team members throughout BRMC and OGH. The prestigious award is presented quarterly to one nurse who provides exceptional patient care, excels in patient and family teachings, creates an environment of efficient open communication with patients, as well as serving as a role model for peers.

Julia said about her career, "I decided to become a nurse after working at BRMC as an aide. After graduating from Jamestown School of Practical Nursing, I began my career here at BRMC."

Jackson, born and raised in Bradford, is a veteran nurse that has 45 years under her belt. She has worked in many areas of the hospital including pediatrics, med-surg, telemetry, same day surgery, maternity, and healthy beginnings prior to working on the acute care unit, 3 east.

"What I enjoy most about being a nurse is taking care of my patients and their families. Seeing the children and grandchildren of pediatric patients I took care of when I first started my nursing career is so gratifying. That is the benefit of a small community, you get very familiar with the people you serve."

BRMC and OGH named the highly coveted nursing award after Florence Nightingale, who laid the groundwork for the philosophy and underpinnings of modern-day nursing. Throughout Florence Nightingale's career she displayed qualities such as integrity, nursing excellence, compassion, and service. Other nominees included Josh Clayson, RN, Autumn Freer, RN, Brook Lipps, RN, Jade Maybee, RN, Tara Plath, RN, Beth Price, RN, Cindy Simms, RN, Kristyn Wilber, RN, Meagan Winer, RN, and Steven Wolfe, RN.

Jackson's accolade on being the recipient of the Nightingale Awardee will also be recognized at the 3rd Annual Pulse of the Community Gala being held on Friday, September 19, 2025.
