November 21, 2024 14:30 KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today's briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul will attend the second Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the year 2024 to take place in Fiuggi, Italy, from November 25 to 26, at the invitation of the Italian Presidency of the G7 for this year.

Foreign Minister Cho will join the session on the Indo-Pacific region to have discussions on the situation in the region including the military cooperation between Russia and North Korea and on strengthening the Korea-G7 cooperation on key foreign policy.

On the sidelines of the Meeting, the Foreign Minister will also have bilateral meetings with his counterparts.

Moving on, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Insun will attend the opening ceremony of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) for the United Nations Global Plastics Treaty to be held in Busan on November 25.

The upcoming session will mark the final round of negotiations by the international community to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, which has emerged as a global environmental issue.

In the welcoming reception, Vice Minister Kang will extend encouragement to the participating delegations and stress that the international community, through cooperation and solidarity, should create at the forthcoming session a milestone in tackling plastic pollution by developing the treaty.

The Korean government, as a Global Pivotal State, will contribute actively to setting international norms regarding this key international issue through the successful hosting of the INC-5.
