NOPD Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Incident in Second District

The NOPD is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred this morning (October 10, 2024) during response to a residential burglary call in the 1200 block of State Street.

At about 5:27 p.m., the NOPD was notified of a residential alarm activation in the 1200 block of State Street. Within minutes, officers quickly arrived on the scene and searched the immediate area. Observing an unknown subject fleeing on foot, officers pursued on foot and located the subject in the 6000 block of Prytania Street, where an officer reportedly discharged his service weapon multiple times. The suspect continued to flee until officers located him at a residence in the 6000 block of Pitt Street, observing the suspect to have sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The suspect was transported via EMS to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. No officers were injured in this incident.

Upon release from medical care, the suspect will be arrested for charges in relation to this incident. Specific charges are pending. Detectives are also investigating the suspect's possible involvement in additional burglary incidents in both the Second and Sixth districts.

The NOPD Public Integrity Bureau's Force Investigation Team is investigating the use-of-force aspect of the incident.

Both the Federal Consent Decree Monitor and the Office of the Independent Police Monitor were on scene to monitor the investigation.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
