Check your kids are safely secure during Child Passenger Safety Week

If you're a parent or guardian to a young child, you know how important it is to keep them safely secured in a car seat or booster seat.

But do you know which type of seat is best for your child? Or when it's time to transition your child from a car seat to a booster seat to wearing a seat belt?

Child Passenger Safety Week, which is recognized Sept. 15-21, is an opportunity for parents and caregivers to get refreshed on the importance of choosing and installing safe and age-appropriate car seats and booster seats. Putting kids in child safety seats is important because, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 39% of children killed in car crashes in 2022 were unrestrained.

Child safety seats help reduce injuries and save lives, and they are also required by law. In Arizona, children younger than 8 years old and shorter than 4 feet, 9 inches, must be properly secured in a safety or booster seat.

NHTSA's website has resources online that break down different types of car seats and offers recommendations on which type of car seat is best.

And don't forget - as a parent or guardian, lead by example and buckle up in the front seat every time you drive!
