TAB Counters Performance Tax Push in Congress

- Set for Post-Election Action by Key Committee

The international record labels are renewing pressure on Congress to force local Radio stations to pay a new music royalty in addition to the hundreds of millions of dollars that U.S. broadcasters collectively pay already to musicians, composers and performers through groups such as SoundExchange, ASCAP, BMI, GMR and SESAC.

The Senate Judiciary Committee could "mark up" the proposed and dishonestly named American Music Fairness Act (AMFA) just days after the General Election despite never having been the subject of public testimony in the committee and earning the support of only four Senators.

Both Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Ted Cruz serve on the committee and TAB is urging them to reject the measure which is opposed by 25 Senators and more than 230 Representatives who are co-sponsoring the Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA).

Texas leads the nation in the number of LRFA co-sponsors in the House.

Radio broadcasters are encouraged to register their opposition to AMFA by contacting both offices.
