Po Shu Wang's 'Intersecting Infinity' selected for Fire Station 5 Public Art Project

The City of Santa Rosa and the Santa Rosa Fire Department are proud to announce the selection of Po Shu Wang, a distinguished artist from Berkeley, CA, for the creation of a permanent site-specific public art installation at Fire Station 5. Po Shu Wang's proposal, titled "Intersecting Infinity," features a striking 8-foot stainless steel sculpture symbolizing the phoenix rising. This proposal was chosen following careful deliberation by a selection panel and consideration of community input gathered through a public survey.

"Intersecting Infinity" aims to embody resilience and renewal, resonating deeply with the spirit of Santa Rosa in the aftermath of the Tubbs Fire. The sculpture's design integrates with the architectural landscape of Fire Station 5, symbolizing the community's strength and rebirth while commemorating the losses of the community with solemnity.

Po Shu Wang's expertise in site-specific art installations, coupled with his innovative approach to material and form, impressed the Arts in Public Places committee. The committee formally approved the recommendation to select Po Shu Wang's artwork, "Intersecting Infinity," on May 6, 2024.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Fire Station 5 is being constructed in the Fountaingrove neighborhood of Santa Rosa. In September 2023, a call for artists was issued to invite qualified artists and artist teams to submit their proposals. Following this call, five artists were chosen to proceed to the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage.

The selection process involved a panel of seven individuals, a public survey, and final approval of the recommendation from the Art in Public Places Committee.
