Report Number: ACSBR-023

This report presents data on median household income and the Gini index of income inequality based on the 2022 and 2023 American Community Surveys (ACS).

Estimates from the 2023 ACS show a decrease in real median household income for four states and for three of the 25 most populous metropolitan areas. Median household income increased between the 2022 and 2023 ACS in three states and in three of the 25 most populous metropolitan areas. The Gini index was higher for three states and lower for ten states in 2023 than 2022.

The ACS provides detailed estimates of demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics for states, counties, places, and other localities every year.
