Driver Charged After Traveling 90 MPH In Construction Zone

SUTTON, N.H. - A Massachusetts driver has been summoned to court after excessively speeding through a construction zone while numerous construction workers were present.

At 3:27 p.m. yesterday, June 27, Trooper Dylon Sandstrom of the Troop C barracks was on duty in a construction zone on Interstate 89 southbound in Sutton when a vehicle entered the zone at a high rate of speed. At the time, a lane closure had been set up to ensure the safety of road workers present.

Trooper Sandstrom was able to engage his radar and determined the vehicle was traveling at 90 mph while it continued through the construction zone. The vehicle was stopped shortly after exiting the construction zone and the driver was identified as Adriano Bano Maza, 29, of Lawrence.

Bano Maza was charged with reckless operation and has been ordered to appear in Hillsborough District Court.

Crashes in work zones have doubled this year compared to this time in 2023, according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The New Hampshire State Police reminds all drivers to obey posted speed limits, move over for emergency or maintenance vehicles on the highway, and use extra caution when proceeding through construction zones.
