City extends cooling center operations to Oct. 4

Due to the continuing high temperatures, the City of Sacramento is extending cooling center operations at the Outreach and Engagement Center and the Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center.

The OEC (3615 Auburn Blvd.) will remain open through 8 a.m. Friday, Oct., 4. The center has storage available for personal belongings if needed and will accept pets.

The Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center (2450 Meadowview Road) will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays (Oct. 2-3). The site does not allow pets, and personal storage will be limited to what visitors can carry with them.

During this time, libraries and community centers will also be available during their normal hours of operation, and people can also use these air-conditioned buildings as places to cool off.

If you need assistance in accessing weather respite, please call 311 and make a self-referral to be connected to an outreach worker.

The City will continue to monitor the NWS's forecast and extend cooling-center operations as needed. The City will also monitor capacity at the OEC and Pannell Community Center to determine if other activations are necessary.

Please call 211 or visit their website for more information on respite centers.
