Galveston to celebrate Independence Day with parade, fireworks

We're ready for another fun and safe Independence Day celebration on Galveston Island! With the beach as the backdrop, there is no better place to celebrate Independence Day and summer with a parade and fireworks show.

4th of July Seawall Parade

The annual 4th of July Seawall parade will kick off on Thursday, July 4 at 6 p.m. with fireworks to follow at approximately 9:15 p.m. from the 37th Street and Seawall jetty. The parade is sponsored by the Galveston Firefighters Children's Parade Krewe and will feature a wide array of floats. The parade line-up and route will start at 22nd Street and Seawall Blvd. It will proceed west and end at 45th and Seawall.

Traffic on Seawall Blvd will be detoured northbound at 19th Street and northbound at 53rd Street from Seawall. Seawall Blvd will reopen as the final elements of the parade pass westbound.

The following lane closures for the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. and reopen at 8:30 p.m.

  • 22nd Street (Seawall to Avenue P) Line-up Area
  • Seawall (19th to 22nd Street) Line-up Area
  • Seawall Blvd from 22nd to 53rd Street Parade Route

Fireworks over the Gulf of Mexico

The City of Galveston is excited to sponsor this year's fireworks show. This is the second year the City of Galveston has hosted the fireworks display and we've worked closely with the company to fine-tune the event.

The fireworks display will follow the parade, beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m. from 37th Street and Seawall. The fireworks display will be broadcast online with accompanying music. To listen to the fireworks music, download the free app Pyrocast and enter code 8JUV to access Galveston's show. Through this app, you will hear announcements about the start of the show and the accompanying music.

Friendly Reminders

  • Fireworks: The Galveston Fire Department reminds the public that fireworks are NOT permitted within the City of Galveston's city limits. A Class C misdemeanor, violators caught discharging or in possession of fireworks can face up to $2,000 in fines daily. The Galveston Fire Department is urging the public to take every precaution to ensure a safe, fun holiday.   • Traffic Including Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety: Be patient with traffic and follow all traffic laws. With numerous pedestrians and cyclists on the roads, please stay focused on the road. If you are a pedestrian or a cyclist, please be sure you are walking or riding in well-lit areas, ensuring that you are visible to drivers with bright clothing and lights, and stay on designated walkways and bicycle lanes. There will inevitably be delays leaving the Island. Please be patient and know that we have our entire team working to get you home quickly and safely.
