At the USMEF Strategic Planning Conference in Tucson, Latin America Representative Homero Recio updated members on promotional activities for U.S. red meat in South America. His report included details on an exciting new product recently launched in Colombia - a U.S. pork burger derived from the Boston butt, developed through support from USDA and the National Pork Board.
Recio explained the unique attributes of the Boston butt burger, noting how it stands out against burgers made from trimmings. He said the burger has been very well-received in Colombia and a variation of the product is also being launched in Chile.
Colombia is a major destination for U.S. pork exports, and shipments are reaching new heights this year. January-September exports to Colombia climbed 37% from a year ago to nearly 90,000 metric tons, valued at $255 million (up 44%).
