Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) today announced Chloe Burgett as the winning artist for the South Branch Mural Contest and invited residents to meet the artist and help start the project Sunday, September 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Westminster Church parking lot, 2110 Sheridan Blvd.

This community art event is free and participants of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to attend. All materials will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

The South Branch Mural Project, set for completion in early October, was developed through a competitive selection process administered by the Lux Center for the Arts in August and September.

"The LUX is thrilled to celebrate and support local artists, and to bring opportunities for arts engagements to everyone in the community," said Andy Peterson, Director of Programs and Operations at Lux Center for the Arts.

The mural will transform the west exterior wall of South Branch Library into a lively, colorful space that celebrates the creativity of the Lincoln community and the surrounding neighborhoods, said Ryan Wieber, LCL Director.

"The South Branch Mural Project is more than just a piece of art; it's a reflection of the community," Wieber said. "We are thrilled to have Chloe Burgett lead this effort, and we look forward to seeing Lincoln residents take part in the creation process."

Burgett is a children's book illustrator and lives in Lincoln with her husband, Seth, and their cat, Pencil.

"I feel honored to get to paint my neighborhood library. This mural is inspired by the wonder and discovery of reading, and the front porch culture of my neighborhood in the Near South. Look closely to spot more connections to the surrounding area," Burgett said.
