The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will be at the Great New York State Fair to announce a new fishing opportunity for Labor Day weekend to promote affordable outdoor recreational opportunities.

The announcement will coincide with DEC's Free Family Fishing Day event at the New York State Fairgrounds from 12 to 5 p.m., and highlights Governor Kathy Hochul's Get Offline, Get Outside initiative.

When: Friday, Aug. 23, 2 p.m.

Where: DEC Free Family Fishing Event, New York State Fairgrounds, Syracuse, New York.

Event is at the pond located adjacent to Gate 10 / Tram Stop 6 (fairground map).

Photo Opportunity: Following the announcement there will be a photo opportunity for activities at the Free Family Fishing Day event. Free fishing equipment and rods are available for fair attendees to fish in the pond.
