SDCI is hosting a Seattle Home Fair on October 19 to help you get a jump-start on your home improvement project. We moved the Seattle Home Fairs to the fall so we can answer your permitting and code questions in time for you to apply for, and receive, that construction permit for your planned spring or summer renovation project.

This free event will be jam-packed with useful information about rental housing rules, our permitting and inspection process, emergency preparedness, and much more. Whether you're a homeowner, landlord, renter, or potential homeowner, the Home Fairs will have something for you. Come talk to our experts about how to protect your property from a landslide, or ask us about zoning, building code, and drainage requirements. You can also attend lectures on earthquake retrofits, rental housing rules, and tree regulations.

Presentation Schedule:

• 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Earthquake Retrofit
  Join us for an introduction to the new prescriptive plan set for earthquake retrofits and a discussion about what it means to seismically retrofit an existing home.
• 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. - New Tree Legislation
  SDCI staff will present an overview of Seattle's tree regulations, including an update on what's changed since the new rules became effective on July 30. This session will focus on information most useful for homeowners and tree service providers.
• 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. - Renting in Seattle
  Whether you are a renter or a housing provider, there is a lot to know. Renting in Seattle provides information and resources on rental regulations and fair housing laws in the City of Seattle as well as tips and best practices.
