As a result of a number of non-compliances, Waverley Day Care in Edmonton was placed on a probationary licence with a term to expire Oct. 31. Since the probationary license was issued, Child Care Licensing has worked with the program through enhanced monitoring to support them in returning to compliance.

Due to ongoing concerns and increased risk, Child Care Licensing determined that there was an imminent danger to the health, safety and well-being of children attending the program, resulting in Waverley Day Care's probationary licence being cancelled early. The closure of this program will affect 54 children and 56 child-care spaces.

Parents affected by the closure of the program were notified in person on Oct. 10. Parents not informed in person were notified by email using the contact information provided by the child-care provider. In addition, the Notice of Cancellation, which describes the reason for a licence cancellation, was posted on the door of the facility.

Jobs, Economy and Trade will continue to provide support, information and assistance to families looking for alternative child-care options.

Anyone with concerns about a child-care program in their community or needing to report an incident is encouraged to call Child Care Connect toll-free at 1-844-644-5165.
