Alberta Transportation closes Highway 881 from kilometre 213 to 241 due to nearby wildfires

Alberta Transportation has closed Highway 881 from kilometre 213 to kilometre 241 (north of Janvier) due to nearby wildfire LWF-136 and other wildfires in the area. This closure is to ensure the safety of motorists and to allow emergency personnel to respond to the wildfires.

There is no detour in place on Highway 881. Please use alternate routes. Highway 63 remains open allowing access to and from Fort McMurray.

The safety of travelers is top priority, and every effort will be made to reopen Highway 881 as quickly as possible when conditions permit.

An Evacuation Alert has been issued for the hamlet of Janvier, due to nearby wildfires, LWF-136 and LWF 142. Chipewyan Prairie First Nation has also issued an Evacuation Alert. If you are in the Janvier area, stay alert and be prepared to evacuate on short notice.

At this time, an Evacuation Order has not been issued. This is an alert for residents in the Janvier area to be ready to leave on short notice.

Motorists are advised to stay informed of further updates through official channels and adhere to all road safety guidelines on Alberta 511.
