Vector Control Updates Mosquito Spraying Schedule and Routes

Corpus Christi, TX - Vector Control is updating the routes completed during the latest mosquito spraying cycle and informing the community about the modified schedule. These proactive measures are part of the ongoing efforts to effectively manage the mosquito population across the city.

Recent rainfall in the Coastal Bend has resulted in stagnant water and tall grass, creating ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. Vector Control began an intensified spraying effort on Saturday, September 7. This involves 14 consecutive days of treatments, covering areas from the Island to Calallen, and will continue through Friday, September 20.

On August 27, the Vector Control Program received authorization from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to add new pesticides for mosquito control. These pesticides now allow Vector Control to effectively spray mosquitoes near canals and other bodies of water within the city.

Vector Control typically sprays at night when traffic conditions are minimal. Vector Control does not spray during inclement weather, elevated wind speeds, or in proximity to individuals who are outdoors.

Below is the updated schedule for the mosquito spraying routes from Saturday, September 7, to Friday, September 20, along with the status update for each spray zone.

Vector Control program reminds the public to keep themselves safe and help by caring for their property by ensuring grass and shrubs are properly trimmed. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, so help reduce mosquito breeding grounds by draining any standing water, including water that collects in empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants.

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District recommends following the 5 Ds of Defense:

DEET - If you will be outside - use insect repellent containing DEET

DRESS - Dress in long sleeves and pants when you're outside.

DAWN, DAYTIME, and DUSK-Mosquitoes are most active at dawn, daytime, and dusk. Avoid being outside during these times of the day.

DRAIN - Curb mosquito breeding areas by draining standing water.

DOCTOR - Consult your physician if you feel sick after being bitten.
