A man will face court later this month following a vehicle stop in the state's far west at the weekend.
About 2am on Sunday (14 July 2024), officers attached to Barrier Police District stopped a Ford Falcon on Gypsum Street, Broken Hill, for a random breath test.
After speaking with the driver, the occupants exited the car and during a search police allegedly located and seized drug paraphernalia.
As officers were attempting to arrest the male driver he allegedly fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued before he allegedly stopped and punched a constable in the face multiple times before he continued running.
The man was stopped a short time later and allegedly continued to resist police.
An officer deployed his taser and the man was arrested.
During a subsequent search of the man, police allegedly located and seized methylamphetamine and cash.
Three constables were injured during the man's arrest.
The 25-year-old man was taken to Broken Hill Hospital for assessment and treatment before he was later released into police custody and charged with;
The South Australian man was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court via AVL on Sunday 14 July 2024), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Broken Hill Local Court on Friday 26 July 2024.
