The ACE Experience 2025 (ACEx2025), to be held Feb. 12-13 at the iconic John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts* in Washington, DC, will feature an in-depth presentation on major changes to the Carnegie Classifications.

Designed for presidents and chancellors, ACEx2025's programing will focus on critical issues impacting higher education, with the aim of leaving attendees with fresh insights and a renewed sense of purpose.

"A New Era for Carnegie Research Classifications," the closing session of ACEx2025, will examine the contrast between the previous and updated versions of the Carnegie Classifications, highlighting how the revisions better reflect the true scope of research activities across higher education.

During the session, a panel of presidents will detail their experiences of how research serves as a vital component of their institutions' missions and impacts undergraduate education. Additionally, the session will give attendees a lens into how research institutions are focusing on a variety of projects, collaborative efforts, and cross-disciplinary work that provide students with a rich academic experience.

Last fall, ACE and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching announced changes to modernize the Carnegie Classifications, including a more transparent methodology for the current "R1" designation, and has since outlined a framework for a new universal Social and Economic Mobility Classification.

Registration for ACEx2025 is open exclusively for ACE members through Oct. 15 at a special, discounted membership rate. If your membership has lapsed or you are new to ACE, contact the ACE membership department to discuss reduced dues.
