‘Our vote is our voice’: Wheelchair users reflect on voting in the 2024 election

25% of Americans have a disability. Voting ensures that our perspectives are considered in key policy decisions regarding access to healthcare, infrastructure and disability protections.

Access to Healthcare

"Our rights are on the line! As a nurse and disability advocate in healthcare, I see firsthand how hard it is to push for basic dignity and equality in a system that doesn't fully protect us," says Andrea Dalzell.

"The fight for disability rights shouldn't be this hard-but we can change that. Your vote matters!

Representation Matters

"Representing inclusion and Black excellence at the White House! Let's keep breaking barriers, pushing forward and showing up! Don't forget to vote and be heard," says Namel Norris.

Honoring Powerful Women

Today, I'm voting not only for myself but to honor my great-great-grandmother, who marched in the early 1900s, faced harsh judgment and even had rotten food thrown at her, all to demand the right to vote. Despite the way they were treated, they never stood down until their voices were heard," says Brianna Grace.

"Back then, it was 'unseemly' for women to speak up and challenge tradition, yet without that generation's courage, our lives would look very different. Our vote is our voice, and the only way to shape our future is by taking part in it."

Voting is a Privilege

"Since 1995, this country has been my home, and I am so thankful for everything it has given me and my family," says Kirsy. "On Election Day, I'm reminded of the honor it is to have a voice in shaping this nation-a privilege not everyone around the world enjoys."

Respect your Fellow Americans

"It's been a long campaign season and it comes down to this. Today is the day to do your civic duty and be part of the Democratic process. Have your voice heard as an American citizen. You can help create change that impacts your daily life," says Steve Way.

"No matter what happens keep things civil, respectful and peaceful, we're all in this together."
