ICYMI: DNC, DPG Sue to Prevent Trump Allies From Blocking the Certification of the Election Arrow

Today, the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Party of Georgia took legal action against the Georgia State Election Board (SEB) to prevent Donald Trump's allies on the SEB from blocking the certification of the election. This lawsuit is to ensure that Georgia's State Election Board doesn't turn a straightforward and mandatory act of certification into a broad license for any county board member to try and delay or block the certification of election results and the will of Georgia voters. Voters - not political appointees - should decide the outcome of our elections, and Democrats are ready to stand up for voting rights in Georgia and across the country to protect Americans' ability to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

For months, the MAGA Republican members of the SEB have been laying the groundwork to block certification of the 2024 election when Donald Trump loses - their latest effort to try to overturn Georgia election results and threaten our democracy like Trump tried to do in 2020. The DNC and our partners - the DPG and the Harris-Walz campaign - are taking proactive steps to stop them and protect the integrity of our elections.

Democratic National Committee Acting Co-Executive Director Monica Guardiola:

"Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican allies have spent years trying to undermine our elections and threaten our democracy - but Democrats are ready to protect Americans' right to vote and make their voice heard. Time and time again, when Trump and the GOP have tried to silence voters and overturn our democratic process, we have stood up and stopped their anti-voter efforts. Let's be clear: the results of this election will be determined by the voters - not Trump's appointed political lackeys. We will always fight to make sure that every vote is counted and that the will of the voters in Georgia and across the country is respected at the ballot box."

Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia Nikema Williams:

"Our State Election Board exists to protect the right to vote for all Georgians, not to favor any single candidate in any election. The three members Donald Trump called his 'pit bulls' for 'victory' disagree, and they're determined to establish a new power of not certifying an election result should their preferred candidate lose - as he did in 2020. That's why we're fighting back, and we will beat them in court like we will beat them at the ballot box this fall."

Harris-Walz Principal Deputy Campaign Manager Quentin Fulks:

"For months, MAGA Republicans in Georgia and across the country have been trying to lay the groundwork to challenge the election results when they lose again in November. But Democrats are prepared, and we will stop them. Certifying an election is not a choice, it's the law. A few unelected extremists can't just decide not to count your vote. That's why we have won case after case in court, fending off MAGA efforts to chip away at our democracy. We will win this case, too, and keep fighting so that every eligible voter can confidently cast their vote knowing it will count."
