Rep. Ami Bera Announces $25 Million Transportation Grant for Sacramento County

Today, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) RAISE Grant Program awarded the Capital SouthEast Connector Joint Powers Authority with a $25,000,000 grant for the Grant Line Road Safety Improvements Project.

"I am pleased to help secure this vital funding to modernize our infrastructure here in Sacramento County," said Representative Ami Bera. "This funding will address critical safety issues on the current two-lane roadway and bridges an active transportation gap by linking existing bike and pedestrian facilities at both ends. By improving mobility and connectivity, this project will support economic development in neighboring communities, address housing supply issues by connecting to growing residential areas, and create good-paying jobs. I look forward to working with the Capital SouthEast Connector JPA to fully implement this project."

This funding will support the reconstruction of 3.6-miles of existing Grant Line Road into a four-lane divided complete street corridor with a separated Class I bike path in the City of Rancho Cordova and Sacramento County. The project will also connect existing bike and pedestrian routes at each end of the project.

This funding will address significant safety issues associated with a roadway constructed over 60 years ago that was not designed to handle current traffic conditions. There have been 125 collisions over a five-year period from 2016-2020. Unfortunately, two recent fatalities occurred in the corridor as a result of collisions in 2021 and 2024. The project will reconstruct the roadway to current design standards, install traffic signals and remove roadside obstructions, all of which contribute to the high collision rate along the corridor.

Representative Bera recently submitted a funding request to support the construction of this project to the House Appropriations Committee's FY2025 Community Project Funding process. This announcement builds off the $4,000,000 in community project funding that Representative Bera secured in 2022 for another portion of the overall 34-mile infrastructure project.
