July 23 Lane shift on SH 199 EB Lake Worth Bridge Project

TxDOT has advised the contractor for the SH 199 Lake Worth Bridge Project is scheduled to shift traffic on the existing eastbound SH 199 main lanes over from just after the FM 1886/Confederate Pkwy overpass to Surfside Dr on Tuesday, July 23 (Alternate routes are advised). Motorists traveling in the eastbound direction from Azle will be transitioned from the existing main lanes to the new eastbound frontage road just after the FM 1886/Confederate Pkwy overpass. Eastbound motorists will then travel on the frontage road thru Surfside Dr and will then reenter the main lanes just before the existing bridge over Lake Worth. The posted speed limit along this section of eastbound SH 199 is 40 miles per hour. The existing traffic signal at Surfside Dr and SH 199 will be removed to facilitate traffic flow along this eastbound detour route. Motorists on Surfside Dr will have right-only access to eastbound and westbound SH 199. Logan Dr access to eastbound SH 199 will also be closed as part of this traffic pattern change and motorists can use either Midland Dr or Surfside Dr to access eastbound SH 199.

Construction on the SH 199 project from FM 1886 to Azle Ave began October 5, 2021. As part of this project, a new bridge over Lake Worth will be constructed. The existing bridge will be kept in service as a frontage road bridge. New SH 199 mainlanes will also be added east of the bridge. Bridges will also be constructed at Rankin Street, Surfside Drive, Love Circle, Hodgkins Road and Azle Avenue while reconstructing and widening SH 199 from four to six lanes west of the Lake Worth crossing. The frontage roads in this area will also be reconstructed. The project was awarded to Sema Construction, Inc. and is estimated for completion in 2024.
