Hayward PD Response to Hayward High School Assault

HAYWARD, Calif., On August 26, 2024, at about 1:22 p.m., officers responded to the report of an assault at Hayward High School (1633 East Avenue). Witnesses advisedthat three students were involved in a physical altercation, and that at leastone student may have sustained injuries from a knife.

Officers arrived on scene and locatedtwo of the three students that were involved in the altercation.

One of the students, a 15-year-old male, was found to have injuries that appeared to have been caused by a knife. He was transported to a local medical facility and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A second student, a 14-year-old male, was contacted and appeared to have minor injuries as a result ofthe confrontation.

The third student, a 15-year-old male, was located a short timelater after a family member transported him to a local hospital. The student received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries that appeared to have been caused by a knife.

The Hayward Police Department is in the process of investigatingthis incident, which includes the collection and processing of evidence, speaking with the involved parties and witnesses, and supporting the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) as they address this incident administratively. No arrests have been made. The circumstances leading up to this incident are currently under investigation and we are not releasing any further information at this timeas all ofthe involved parties are juveniles.

Student safety is and will remain a priority for the Hayward Police Department. We will continue to provide support to the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) as they work to maintainan environment conducive to learning and one in which students and staff feel safe.
