Hazardous trees removed downtown

Lexington's Division of Environmental Services recently removed several hazardous trees from the downtown area.

Six Willow oak trees were evaluated in late summer and found to be "standing dead." This means the trees were dead with no green leaves but had not fallen yet. Standing dead trees are potentially hazardous and prone to falling and losing branches during winter weather and high winds.

Four of the trees were along Main St. in front of Phoenix Park, and two of the trees were on East Main St. between Elm Tree Lane and Martin Luther King Blvd.

Lexington's Urban and Community Forestry manager evaluated the trees and a local tree care services contractor removed them.

The city plans to replace the trees at a future date.
