City offices are closed July 4; pools and splash pads are open

Refuse, yard waste and recycling services delayed Thursday and Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - City of Grand Rapids non-emergency offices and departments are closed Thursday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. All Grand Rapids Public Library (GRPL) locations also are closed July 4. Normal operations resume Friday, July 5.

Other holiday reminders:

  • Grand Rapids' three pools and 15 splash pads remain open during the Independence Day holiday weekend. Pools are open July 4 (noon to 4 p.m.). All splash pads are open July 4 as usual (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.). For a list of locations and hours, CLICK HERE.
  • Because of the holiday, the City's refuse, yard waste and recycling services will not be collected on Thursday, July 4 and service will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. That means Thursday's collection will take place Friday and Friday's normal collection will be picked up on Saturday.
  • The City's free yard waste and compost site, 2001 Butterworth St. SW, also will be closed on July 4. The site, operated by We Care Denali, is open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday throughout the year. It is open to Grand Rapids residents only, so residents must bring ID for proof of residence. Yard waste must be loose or in a paper bag. Plastic bags are not allowed.
