ATLANTA - State Representative Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) recently announced the launch of the "I Pledge" Civic Engagement Media Initiative, a collaboration with Atlanta News First (WANF), formerly CBS 46, designed to inspire patriotism and community pride among Georgia's youth. The initiative featured elementary school students reciting the Pledge of Allegiance on television, allowing their voices to reach thousands of homes and promoting civic engagement from an early age.
"Empowering our youth to be active citizens and proud contributors to their communities is essential for the future of Georgia," said Rep. Schofield. "The 'I Pledge' initiative is about more than just reciting words; it's about igniting a lifelong dedication to civic responsibility and pride in our shared American values."
Aired on Monday, November 11, 2024, on WANF, the initiative focused on promoting responsibility and unity among young students. Each segment featured students from various Fulton County elementary schools, representing the diversity of Georgia's future leaders. WANF partnered with Rep. Schofield to support community and civic engagement, providing a platform for both organizations to educate the public. By giving students the opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance on air, "I Pledge" aimed to encourage civic pride and understanding, helping young Georgians connect with their roles in the community. The initiative also served as a reminder to the broader community of the shared values that unite them.
