East Stroudsburg University's Provost's Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues Fall 2024 semester with a presentation by Samuel Quainoo, Ph.D., professor and chair, political science and economics; Artress White, Ph.D., associate professor, English; Donna-Marie Cole-Malott, Ph.D., assistant professor, professional and secondary education/ instructional design technology; Ko Mishima, Ph.D., professor, political science and economics; Lavar Peterson, helpdesk manager;, and Beth Sockman, Ph.D., professor and chair, professional and secondary education/ instructional design technology. The presentation, "Destination Ghana! A Travel Abroad Opportunity for Students Linked to ESU's New Black Studies Minor" will take place on Wednesday, October 9, at 4:30 p.m. in Stroud Hall 117. The presentation will also be live streamed on the ESU Live Events webpage.

In this presentation, led by Dr. Quainoo, faculty and staff will share photographs, impressions, and initiatives from their summer 2023 trip to Ghana, West Africa. This dynamic presentation will focus on collaborative opportunities between ESU and Ghana in the areas of education, athletics, government, science, and cultural exchange. Panelists will address each area of focus, ending with specific details on how ESU students (and faculty and staff) can travel to Ghana for the cultural immersion experience of a lifetime.

Travel to Africa provides an opportunity to understand the origins of the original Black people in America and the cultural richness of one of the most welcoming nations on the continent of Africa. Students will discover how to link their African journey to a minor in Black Studies. The ESU community and the community at large will gain an awareness of the various roles they might play in taking advantage of and sustaining inclusive education and cultural immersion experiences.
